Description

The venous system is a network of vessels that carries deoxygenated blood from the body’s tissues and organs back to the heart. The anterior (or front) aspect of the venous system includes the major veins that return blood from the upper half of the body.

The anterior venous system includes the superior vena cava, the largest vein in the body, and carries deoxygenated blood from the upper body back to the heart. Other major veins in the anterior venous system include the jugular veins in the neck, the subclavian veins in the shoulders, and the brachial veins in the arms.

The veins in the anterior of the venous system also include smaller veins that drain blood from the chest, abdomen, and pelvis. The proper functioning of the venous system is essential for maintaining proper circulation and overall health.
